Access Statement for the Little Hollies

 

The Approach and Parking

The Little Hollies is approached from the road by a tarmac driveway. There is level parking for one car available near the main entrance (approximately 2 metres). There is additional parking available at the front of the building; however this is not as close to the main entrance and is likely to be on a slight slope. 

 

Paths and Patio Area

There is a level flagstone pathway around the perimeter of the building and a level patio area near the main entrance.

 

The layout of the little Hollies

The main entrance leads into the open plan kitchen/ dining and living area. This is a large area with plenty of turning space for a wheelchair user (manual/ electric or assisted) to manoeuvre in. The furniture is light weight so it can be moved with minimal effort to provide extra space if required. (Please ask for assistance from owner if you require help moving furniture). There is access to the two bedrooms and to the wet room from this area.

 

The flooring is a good quality vinyl (suitable for wheelchair use) and level throughout. There are no internal steps.

 

There are remote controls provided for the TV and DVD player.

 

The Wet Room

This is a large room with plenty of turning space for wheelchair users and has appropriate vinyl flooring.

 

The shower controls are a height of 108 cm from the floor and there is a horizontal hand rail by the shower which is a height of 104 cm from the floor.

 

The toilet has a central position to enable left or right access. There are drop down support rails both sides of the toilet.

 

The hand basin is large and the rim is a height of 81cm from the floor. The basin has taps with lever handles. 

 

The external doors

The door at the main entrance is 83cm wide and opens inwards. There is a very gradual tarmac ramp at this entrance. There is a slight step in through the main front door of 2.5cm and a slightly raised sub-frame of 1.5cm in height and 5cm across.  This door has a large vertical handle.

 

The external door in the double bedroom is an additional exit to the front of the building. There is a slightly raised sub-frame of 1.5cm in height and 5cm across at the entrance of this door. This door is 83cm wide and opens inwards.

 

The internal doors

The internal bedroom doors are both 84cm wide and open inwards.

 

The saloon doors leading from the twin bedroom to the wet room are 95cm in width altogether and can open in either direction.

 

The wet room door from the living area is 84cm in width and opens outwards.

 

Switches and sockets

The light switches are a height of 90cm from the floor. The sockets are 90cm in height from the floor to the switch. The twin bedroom has touch control bedside lamps.

 

Alarms

There is a heat alarm fitted to the ceiling in the kitchen area, a smoke alarm situated on the ceiling in the living area and another smoke alarm situated on the ceiling in the twin bedroom.

 

Transport

There is very limited public transport in this area.

 

Dogs

Sorry no pet dogs to stay, but assistance dogs are welcome.

 

Communication

There is good mobile phone reception at the Little Hollies. There is a public pay phone (no coins) on the outskirts of Bredwardine Village, approximately 2 miles from the Little Hollies.
